Thanks to google, stereotype means a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
I know that sometimes well should I address most of time, we have a stereotype thinking of a person. I have it too, I admit - which I think it could be bad sometimes because I had a bad image towards that person already. I'm trying to stop actually, instead there are better way of approach.
Perhaps this is just a small thought that cross over my mind that people always ask me the same things over again just because of my job.
My job seems fun, wild, we drink, we party, we sleep here and there, we get know people, we sounds like a biyotch.
BUT do you know that I have flown with people who are really nice, humble, faithful to their partner, love their family, they do the job because it's the only one that could make them spend more time with family, and many more. They are really amazing ones.
So here it is I want to tell you (whoever that have stereotype of thinking what a crew is all about):
- I fly because I really want to travel, fulfilling my dreams
- I love my job because I'm able to learn lots of things, I travel by myself, I learnt how to handle people better, I learnt to solve things and not be afraid to admit mistakes, I learnt to make people's mood better, I learnt how to be a first aider
- I learn that life is fragile, life is short, we should really appreciate it better
- Yes I've met those naughty ones - slutty ones - heard stories here and there. But perhaps deep inside they just want to be loved - like everyone else
- I've met those who are really humble, polite, love their family
- They really work for the sake of their family
- Yes I had rejected few passengers who asked for my number right in front of them - We are not really interested with passengers unless you are cute
- In fact, not many crew likes passengers despite of them being cute (hardly came across that crew got stories with passengers haha!)
- And no, we don't do this often because hardly we met cute guys who is interested to us and we too have interest with them (really gotta have a chemistry!)
- If you could think we live a wild world and seems plastic and temporary, how about for people who are on ground? It really depends on their personality. Just because we are up in the air doesn't mean we are not trustworthy.
- Nope, pilots are not the one who decide our roster / flying schedule; it is our planning department (I have no idea where some people got this kind of idea *rolleyes*)
I wrote this because I get upset when some people who don't understand our life yet try to judge. Why don't I lend you my uniform and live my life for a week and tell me if you could make it? Yes it an envious job, breakfast in New York, dinner in Paris, celebrate Christmas in London. Sounds envious but deep down, we just want to spend time on birthday, Christmas, Chinese New Year with our family.
So please stop having whatever thoughts that you have about image of us because we are still human, we breathe the same air in the same atmosphere, live in the earth and perhaps you could meet your love of life when you stop stereotype about us; our job.
But then, I realized I shouldn't be upset to those people. Because they are nobody in my life, most of my close friends and family know what I'm doing and they know that I really love my job. I guess that what matters isn't it?
Why would I let other people comment affect my life? Just because they are being judgemental about my job, it's an obvious that they don't even bother to ask or to find out whether it's a myth or fact. Everyone just love gossips. Haha.
I guess that's all came to my thought ;)
XOXO
Jess
